LOCATION: Washington DC
Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Development Intern to assist our Development team in various fundraising and administrative tasks. The Development Intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and event coordination while supporting the organization’s mission of fostering resilient, self-sufficient, and inclusive communities.

Essential Functions
Key Responsibilities:
- Gift Processing and Acknowledgement:
Assist in processing donations and preparing donor acknowledgment letters. Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all gifts received from a variety of sources including online cash, checks, and in-kind donations.
- Database Management:
Help maintain donor databases, ensuring records are up to date through contact information updates and data cleanup tasks.
- Prospect Research:
Support the team by conducting prospect research, including preparing donor and prospect profiles.
- Event Support:
Assist with coordinating and organizing fundraising events, including preparing materials, managing RSVPs, and providing logistical support during events.
- Reporting and Reconciliation:
Assist in creating fundraising reports and collaborating with the finance department on donation reconciliation processes.
- General Administrative Support:
Provide support in scheduling meetings, preparing donor correspondence, and assisting with other development-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience or interest in database management (familiarity with CRM software like Raiser’s Edge is a plus).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Enthusiasm for nonprofit work and commitment to LSSNCA’s mission.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- Event planning or coordination experience.
- Knowledge of basic fundraising principles.
