Opportunity Description

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Electronics Assembler to join our AWESOME manufacturing team at Communications-Applied Technology (C-AT). The ideal candidate must be local to the Reston, VA area and have experience working in a factory or manufacturing environment. This role is perfect for someone with strong mechanical knowledge and a passion for hands-on assembly work. As an Electronics Assembler, you will play a crucial role in the production process, assembling components and ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble components and parts according to specifications, leveraging multi-media work instructions.
  • Perform repetitive light mechanical tasks.
  • Assemble electronic and mechanical subassemblies.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize production efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace within the manufacturing facility.
  • Perform tasks involving Drill-Press, Band-Saw, Sheet Metal Cutter, CNC machine, Sander.
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools.
  • Contribute to machine-shop service and maintenance.
  • Prepare parts for painting, including masking, preparation, and painting.
  • Perform electronic assembly tasks under a microscope or magnifying glass.
  • Perform cable cutting, soldering, wiring, and fastening of connectors and metal covers.
  • Assist in shipping and receiving operations.
  • Conduct product inspection and quality control.
  • Perform cosmetic detail work to prepare products for shipment.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in a factory or manufacturing facility setting.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools.
  • Familiarity with assembly line processes and techniques.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot assembly issues.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive thinker and problem solver.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Experience with manufacturing tools.
  • Experience in machine-shop maintenance and preparing parts for painting.
  • Willingness to contribute to assembly tasks including soldering, wiring, and assembly under magnification.
  • Ability to read and follow assembly drawings, build books, and some schematics.
  • Experience in harness assembly and working with cables, Mil-Spec pins, sockets, and connectors is a plus.

Academic Education and Requirements:

  • At a minimum, a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Permanent Residency or U.S. Citizenship required.

Work Experience Needed:

  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience is preferred.
  • Individuals with backgrounds in art, Automotive electronics, building miniature hand crafts, or similar hands-on skills may fit well.

Must-Have Requirements:

  • Good eye-hand coordination.
  • Attention to detail and good craftsmanship.
  • Capable of reading, writing, and communicating in English.
  • Willingness to learn, advance, and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to read/understand electronic schematics and assembly prints is a plus.
  • Some knowledge of basic electronics is a plus.
  • Self-initiative with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly.
  • Good work ethic, positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and grow.

Job Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Perform production assembly tasks on electronic and mechanical assemblies, including modules, boards, panels, and cables.
  • Work from diagrams and drawings to make initial layouts, using hand and power tools.
  • Conduct continuity checks on work in process and completed assemblies.
  • Conduct quality inspections on the processing line in accordance with quality specifications.
  • Disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test experimental or prototype assemblies according to specifications and under simulated conditions.
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified.
  • Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes.
  • Solder through-hole components, jumper wires, and perform harness assembly.
  • Layout and dress wires to drawing specifications or in accordance with cable layout forms as required.
  • Handle cables, including cleaning and terminating cables using various terminals, Mil-Spec pins, sockets, and connectors.
  • Use adhesives appropriately and handle typical hand tools.
  • Maintain product inventory in workstations and ensure quality checks are performed.
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
  • Assist in the development of build book guides.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
