Finance Intern – Fairfax County Health Department
The Fairfax County Health Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Intern to support our Revenue Billing Team. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience with medical billing processes and provides exposure to the operational side of public health finance.
Position Overview:
The Finance Intern will assist the team in processing payment adjustments from insurance reimbursements using the Health Department’s Electronic Medical Records System (Patagonia). The ideal candidate will have knowledge or experience in medical billing, strong organizational skills, and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Log into the Health Department’s Electronic Medical Records System (Patagonia) to access and manage billing data.
- Set up batch postings based on information provided in insurance remittance statements.
- Locate and add clients listed on the remittance statement to the batch for processing.
- Post payment adjustments and update client accounts accurately.
- Complete the batch and generate reports to reconcile adjustments with the remittance statement.
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to established billing procedures.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a program related to Finance, Accounting, Medical Billing, Health Administration, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of or experience in medical billing processes is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word in particular) and an ability to work with electronic records systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to follow multi-step processes efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members.
