Job Description: Nonprofit Communications Associate
Summary:
Fairfax Futures is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Fairfax, VA. Fairfax Futures, through the power of partnerships, catalyzes community-wide action and change so all children and youth achieve their full potential. Our organization has traditionally worked with early childhood educators, providing professional learning and support to the field. However, we are also expanding our portfolio to support the county’s work around Opportunity Youth.
Given the nature of non-profit work, the candidate must have a passion for non-profits in the Fairfax community, early childhood education, educators, children, youth, and families and/or community engagement. This is a great opportunity for interested candidates to gain experience in the multi-faceted world of non-profit management.
An ideal candidate will have experience to bring to the organization in the areas of: web design; communications; and social media/website/newsletter writing.
Candidates with sound judgment, time management skills, and internal motivation should apply. Work is supervised by the Executive Director of Fairfax Futures. Employee may also receive assignments from and work closely with other colleagues at Fairfax Futures and within Fairfax County Government.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Web Design
As our portfolio is expanding, we are seeking an individual who can support the re-design of our website. For example, candidates will be expected to support the following:
- Complete a web audit and provide detailed recommendations for refreshing/redesigning the site.
- Regularly update web content.
- Maintain site functionality and security.
- Optimize for search engines (SEO).
- Monitor analytics.
- Promote the site across other channels.
- Support the build-out of website with expanded work around Opportunity Youth.
- Create linkages between the website and donor management system, Bloomerang.
- Coordinate with other county departments to keep information accurate and aligned with the organization's goals.
Board Support
- Attend quarterly Board meetings for knowledge building.
Social Media/Blog/Web/Newsletter
- Institute best practices to help increase the number of social media followers.
- Create a social media calendar/schedule to automate posts.
- Research early childhood education content and news to be shared via social media, web, blog, and newsletter.
- Contribute to the drafting of weekly social media posts, bi-weekly website posts, and monthly newsletters.
Required Qualifications / Education: Ideal candidates will have an undergraduate or graduate degree. Proficiency with Microsoft suite. Strong research, writing and web management skills. Organized, attentive to details, innovative, and tech-savvy.
Ideal Qualifications: Bi-lingual – English/Spanish, preferred, as many of the educators in our community speak Spanish.
